Welcome to Straight, Inc. Copout Stories. We`re glad you`re here. You`re among Friends. You`re not alone. This site contains shocking stories of people who have “copped out” aka “escaped” from that evil pit of Hell known as Straight Incorporated. “Straight, Incorporated” was a very destructive, highly controversial and extremely abusive cult that shamelessly and dishonestly, masqueraded as a drug rehab for teenagers in several parts of the United States from 1976 to 1993.
These teenagers who were incarcerated in all of these savage Straight locations usually ranged in age from 13 to 20 years of age. The Straight cult had these Warehouse type facilities which operated in states such as California, Virginia, Texas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Georgia, Maryland, Ohio and Florida. Contrary to the mythology and propaganda endlessly perpetuated by Straight, these kids were not clients! These teenagers were hostages. While on First Phase they were imprisoned and held against their will physically, emotionally and psychologically (and sadly in so many cases, all three,) at the Straight Facility during the day and at night they were shuttled and transported (against their will) to various foster homes where they were held against their will there as well. Those teenagers who were on oldcomer status on phases 2,3,4 and 5 ended up being (physical and psychological) prisoners in the Straight Warehouse facility as well as in their own homes as well as enslaving newcomers on first phase. During all these years (1976 to 1993) Straight Incorporated was a never-ending nightmare for so many people and their families. This very same nightmare (and it`s relentless aftermath) still exists to this very day for so many Survivors and their families in so many different ways. Straight Incorporated was a total sham and scam. Straight was Hell on Earth. Straight Incorporated is one of the worst Cults the World has ever seen. No question about it. The human rights abuses and horror stories about Straight Incorporated are countless and endless. It`s a bottomless pit.
What is a copout? A copout is someone who physically escapes or flees at anytime and from any place while being on one of the 5 phases at Straight Incorporated. This happened a lot from 1976 to 1993. This includes escaping from The Straight Building, foster-homes, school, work or any other place or location. It is also important to note that “Graduates” (aka “7 Steppers”) from Straight have also copped out as well.
Let`s be clear on this. I, Chris Poole, don`t own any of the copout stories on this website and I never will. I also don`t own this website and I never will. I own nothing. All the copout stories on this website are the 100% personal property of all the Straight Survivors who lived, wrote and submitted them. We appreciate everyone who has allowed their stories to be posted and read on here. It is our hope that all these copout stories will always be permanently posted on here forever. Having said that, anyone can have their copout story instantly removed from this website at anytime that they wish. We hope this will never happen. Nevertheless, all anyone has to do is ask for their stories to be removed and this will be done immediately. You have our word on this.
A Straight Survivor recently asked me this following question. What`s the purpose of this creating and maintaining this copout website? The answers to this question are very simple and crystal clear. Here are the 5 answers.
1) We want to Honor and pay our respects to all of the people who have ever copped out from Straight. This site is the perfect way to do this. This website is a permanent Tribute,Monument and Shrine to all the people who have ever escaped from the terrifying, misery known as Straight Incorporated.
2) By people writing their copout stories and letting us post them on here this will help countless other people out there who were also in Straight and in similar places. The stories on this website lets them know they are not alone.
3) It`s very cathartic, therapeutic and healing by writing out all these experiences on paper. This website gives Straight Survivors both the forum and the opportunity to do this.
4) By starting and maintaining this website this is our way of giving back and being of service to the Straight Survivor Community.
5) I`ve always been fascinated by people who have escaped from Straight Incorporated and this website gives me the opportunity to meet these people, read their stories and learn about their disturbing experiences with Straight.
Copouts are brilliant overachievers who successfully escaped from Straight under bitterly difficult circumstances. They all made it look easy even though it was anything but easy. ALL copouts will always have our permanent respect for Life.
Every single copout story is unique and different in so many ways. They are not all the same at all. Every escape story is completely different from the others regarding all of the people involved, their personalities, the circumstances and the events that took place before, during and after the actual copout. So all copout stories are all very dissimilar and different in so many ways. Read all of the stories and you will see exactly what I mean.
For those who don`t like the word “copout,” I encourage you to please read my article on this website called, “Straight Is Crooked As A Barrel Of Snakes.”
ALL of the copout stories on here are always listed in alphabetical order.
We never have and we never will pay anyone for submitting their stories.
We never have and we never will make any money from these Copout stories. Not one cent. This copout website has never been about money and it never will be about money. Never! Never! Never!
We will not forward any e-mails to anyone about anything. Please don`t ask us for someone`s contact information. We never give out any information about the people who have shared their stories on this website. No exceptions ever. The reason for this is that we believe very strongly in always protecting and respecting the privacy of all the people who have been kind enough to share their stories with us on this website. This will never change.
This website is NOT is a message board.
Please take the time to read “The Information Page ” and “The Links Page.”
It doesn`t matter whether you graduated from Straight or not. It also doesn`t matter if you were ever a staff member or not. All that matters is that you copped out from Straight and if you did, we want to hear from you. Even if you copped out and later on you ended up right back at Straight, we still want to post your story on here. We never turn anyone away who copped out from Straight. We will always post any Straight Survivor`s story on here who copped out from Straight
Please feel free to tell other Straight Survivors about this site. One way to do this is to e-mail other Survivors (and non-Survivors) the link to this website. The more people we e-mail this LINK to,the better. We also encourage fellow Survivors to post the link to this copout site on the other “group websites” about Straight Incorporated. The website address link is copout.org/ If you were never in Straight but you know somebody who was then please e-mail them this website. We want to get the word about this website to as many people as possible. We hope you will help us do this.
If you are a former Straight parent or if you are some other family member and you want to write about your experience, from your vantage point of a family member of yours copping out from Straight, we encourage you to write your story and send it to us and we will post your story on our website. We welcome all copout stories from family members. We hope to hear from you.
If you want to write and send us your copout story but you want your story posted “anonymously” on this website, we will honor and respect your wishes. This is fine. This is no problem at all. As a matter of fact, some of the copout stories you see on this website are written and posted by Straight Survivors who wish to remain anonymous. This is fine. If you happen to read a copout story by someone who was in the same Straight Location as you were, during the very same time period you were there, but you don`t recognize the person`s name on the copout story, this is because the real name has been withheld by request and this person wishes to remain anonymous. This is fine.
We are always looking for ways to make this website better. If you have any ideas and suggestions on ways we can improve this website please e-mail us and let us know. Email us at email@example.com
Please take the time to read ALL of the copout stories on this website. They all need and deserve to be read. Every copout story is a voice speaking loud and clear that needs to be read and heard by as many people as possible. They all matter. They are all extremely important. They have all stood the test of time and they always will. They are timeless. Please show them the respect they have always deserved (and always will deserve) by reading every single story on here.
Thank You to everyone on this website who has taken the time to write and share your copout stories with us. We deeply appreciate every single one of them and we are extremely grateful to all of you for letting us post them on here.Thank You all for your courage, bravery, trust, your friendship, your time and so much more. Thank You all for taking that dark journey back to hell and back and putting it all on paper for us so we could post your story on this website. It wasn`t easy but you all did it anyway and we are extremely grateful to all of you. We will never forget you. We can`t thank you enough. We are forever in your debt. Thank You.
A word about ALL of the Survivors who didn`t ever copout from Straight. I, Chris Poole am one of the people who never copped out from Straight. We have just as much respect and admiration for the non-copouts as we do for copouts. We want you all to know that we don`t have any favoritism here from one type of Survivor over another. Whether you`re a Graduate, a Termination, a copout, a withdraw; everyone is universally respected equally. We don`t give any preferential treatment to any type of Straight Survivor over another. In other words we hold all Straight Survivors everywhere in equally high esteem and reverence.

“Some birds are not meant to be caged, that’s all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild. So you let them go, or when you open the cage to feed them they somehow fly out past you. And the part of you that knows it was wrong to imprison them in the first place rejoices, but still, the place where you live is that much more drab and empty for their departure.”
—-Stephen King, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption: A Story from Different Seasons
Max: The best thing to do is to get your ass out of here. Best way that you can.
Billy Hayes: Yeah, but how?
Max: Catch the midnight express.
Billy Hayes: But what’s that?
Max: [laughs] Well it’s not a train. It’s a prison word for… escape. But it doesn’t stop around here.
